Engineers across the globe, employees working on DigitalOcean’s App Platform and Spaces offerings and at least one security operations center (SOC) analyst are among the earliest roles caught up in cloud vendor DigitalOcean’s layoffs.
The company announced cuts to 11 percent of its workforce – about 200 employees – Thursday as part of a restructuring plan. DigitalOcean also announced earnings for its fourth fiscal quarter – which ended Dec. 31.
Multiple LinkedIn users took to the social media network to report if they were part of the layoffs and to support colleagues.

“Woke up this morning to an email telling me I no longer have a job,” wrote a self-identified cloud support engineer who was with the company for more than a year. “Laid off after 16 months. Feeling a lot of emotions, but trying to stay positive.”
“I’ve spent the day digesting the news, trying to think optimistically— a challenge in itself— and, somehow, I find myself looking forward to the next chapter in my life,” wrote a self-described social media coordinator who was let go after working with DigitalOcean for more than a year.
She continued: “Thank you to my colleagues who worked alongside me, who reached out to comfort me, who were vulnerable in sharing their worries with me. I sincerely believe that I, and everyone walking this uncertain path with me, will find our next destination and thrive there— we got this.”
DigitalOcean employees related to storage and caught in the layoffs include:
*A level two senior engineer based in Canada and working with DigitalOcean’s Spaces cloud object storage offering
*A level one senior engineer on the storage platforms team based in Canada and with the company less than a year
*A senior manager for storage engineering with the company for more than three years
Other engineers in the United States let go from the company include:
*A senior engineer who worked at the company for about eight years
*A senior software engineer and the technical lead on DigitalOcean Container Registry who was with the company more than three years
*A level two engineer with the company for more than a year
*A level two senior engineer with experience in distributed systems, DevOps and architecture who was with the company for more than two years
Other engineers outside the U.S. cut from the company include:
*A site reliability engineer based in Germany and with the company less than a year
*A cloud functions software engineer based in Canada and with the company less than a year
*A staff engineer based in Germany and with the company for more than four years
*A senior site reliability engineer based in Canada and with the company for about two years
*A senior software engineer based in Canada who spent four years with DigitalOcean’s App Platform offering
Other cut positions include:
*A security operations center (SOC) analyst with the company for about nine years
*An engineering manager with the company for about a year
*A senior organizational development program manager experienced in employee training programs with the company for about three years
*An organizational development specialist experienced in employee training
*A user experience (UX) and product designer based in Canada
*A senior software developer based in Canada and with the company less than a year
At least 10 managed service providers (MSPs) have posted job openings on LinkedIn in February. And at least 10 vendors have posted open roles that interact with the channel.
DigitalOcean joins a slate of other tech vendors to announce workforce reductions after a digital tools boom during the height of the pandemic. Moderated customer demand, less of a need for pandemic-era employee counts, growing inflation in the United States and the potential for a recession have been among the reasons for the layoffs.
