Another Akamai Outage Took Down Major Sites And Services

Akamai Technologies said it has fixed an issue with its Edge DNS service, which was causing widespread outages across the internet early Thursday afternoon.

The Cambridge, Mass.-based company said the Edge DNS service is “resuming normal operations,” less than an hour after the company reported a disruption with the service, which was bringing down multiple websites and services.

“We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations,” an Akamai spokesperson told CRN in a statement. “We will continue to monitor to ensure that the impact has been fully mitigated.”

The Akamai outage appeared to have an impact on several major websites and services. Users on Downdetector.com have been reporting issues with the websites and services of Fidelity Investments, Steam, LastPass, Amazon and UPS, among other major companies and brands.

This is the second Akamai outage in as many months after the content delivery network provider experienced service disruptions with its hosting platform last month.
