AWS Agentic AI GM Hired By Alchemy As New COO To Merge Blockchain And AI

“Just as AWS enabled every company to become a technology company, Alchemy is enabling every financial service provider to become a programmable money institution,” says Alchemy’s new COO Bill Platt.

Bill Platt, who led Amazon Web Services’ large-scale agentic AI platforms like AWS Transform, Kiro, and Amazon Q Developer, has departed the cloud giant to join Web3 development platform company Alchemy.

“After more than a decade helping to build and scale AWS as the general managerI decided that it was time to take a true break for the first time in my career,” Platt tells CRN.

“I became convinced that blockchain represents one of those rare frontiers, one with potential to fundamentally transform how technology powers the next era of innovation,” he said. “Just as AWS enabled every company to become a technology company, Alchemy is enabling every financial service provider to become a programmable money institution.”

Platt has been hired as Alchemy’s new chief operating officer, tasked with leading the San Francisco-based company’s next phase of growth as AI and blockchain converge to enable autonomous financial systems.

“AI will change more than how we code or communicate, it will reshape how value moves across the world,” he said.

Alchemy touts itself as the world’s leading Web3 development platform, providing infrastructure and developer tools for scalable blockchain applications.

AWS AI Career

Platt spent over a decade at AWS, the world’s largest cloud computing company.

He was most recently an AWS general manager where he led AWS’ agentic AI platforms such as its new Kiro AI coding tool and Amazon Q Developer agentic AI product.

Platt was a core leader in AWS’ agentic AI initiativesmodernizing enterprise workloads and helping customers adopt autonomous software systems.

“My focus is on helping lead Alchemy through one of the most transformational shifts in technology since the advent of the internet, the dawn of agentic AI,” Platt said. “I see agentic AI not as an end in itself, but as the means to an extraordinary outcome: empowering anyone to build, connect, and scale digital systems without needing to know how to code.”

He sees Alchemy as a natural continuation of that AI evolution, but this time, focused on the financial tech (Fintech) industry.

“I’ve lived through every major computing shift of the last 35 years: mainframes to distributed systems, the internet, cloud and AI,” Platt said. “Web3 today looks like cloud computing ten years ago. Developers are migrating fast, enterprises are demanding more, and the infrastructure needs to scale immediately.”

“The difference is that AI is compressing what took the cloud a decade into just a few months,” he added.

Alchemy’s Plan For New COO

Alchemy is striving to lead a blockchain and AI convergence movement through its intelligent blockchain engine, Cortex.

As COO, Platt now oversees advancing Alchemy’s road map and embedding AI into its infrastructure so developers can build autonomous financial applications without deep AI expertise.

“My mission is to help Alchemy harness this evolution, where agentic ai and blockchain converge, to drive real-world impact,” he said. “When we combine this with the generative and autonomous capabilities of AI, we can unlock the potential for a new kind of digital and financial infrastructure, one that can build itself and scale innovation faster than ever before.”

Platt sees the next evolution in AI with agentic communities and economies, which are networks of systems that autonomously transact, lend and exchange digital assets on behalf of users.

Alchemy says it’s already piloting agent-to-agent payment systems with select partners such as financial giant J.P. Morgan.

“These technologies have the power to ignite unprecedented innovation within the very systems capable of financing the world’s next wave of progress,” he said.
